Who are you voting for?
I stumbled accross a website that has a series of questions relating to the upcoming election, the questions of course relate to the hot topics: Fox Hunting, Immigration, The European constitution, etc, etc. You are ased to either 'Strongly Agree', 'Agree', 'Neutral', 'Disagree' or 'Strongly Disagree' With the policies on front of you. The website then tallies up your answers and decides who you should vote for in May.

I'm voting for either the Conservatives or UKIP according to the poll. Close, I'm not voting for UKIP!

Anyway the Harlem native blew like, last summer I think and by the looks of things could be set to fulfill his early promise this. His website offers free downloads including his biggest hit 'Fuck That' Check him out on his site www.bathgateonline.com Download the tracks and remember the name.

What's in a letter?
A hilarious week in Why Lout? history has seen us mentioned in 3 straight issues of Hip-Hop Connection. The latest installment has seen Why Lout? slammed in the letters page by "J" from Prague who asks 'Why should we listen to Why Lout? Who are just a fake Wu Tang?' Funny stuff, while Wu Tang are an influence on just about any body in hip-hop ever. We would never claim any kind of comparison with the legendary group, mainly because it would be a played out thing for a group to do! But anyway, can't please all of the people all of the time can we? We were also featured in the Undercover Magazine letters page, but that's not worth going into.......

This is Tha Carter!
Is Lil Wayne the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired? I'm starting to think so! In the last 4 months 3 albums have really caught my attention, Masta Ace's 'A Long Hot Summer' was a completely surprising monster of an L.P. Something of my roots in hip-hop drew me to it's soulful, New-York underground sound. Beanie Sigel's 'The B.Coming' was not allowed to fail, it remains to be seen wether it sells as well as it should and stands the test of Beanie Sigel's jail time. But the most surprising and the most popular album in my ears has been 'Tha Carter' by Lil Weezy. I'll admit to being somewhat of a sucker to the hype around Wayne, the Def Jam rumours came around with some confusion, I heard his 8 Bars on Destiny's Child's 'Soldier' and decided to buy his newest album! I will also admit to a blissful ignorance when it comes to 'Cash Money Millionaires' releases. Those album covers, some of the track names and the image in general was really off-putting to me as a hip-hop fan. I could be wrong, but I think that 'Tha Carter' is the first non-stupid album cover to be released on the label? I still have questions about Mannie Fresh's production, honestly I find it to be a bit repetitive. But when Wayne and Fresh combine properly the results are close to genius. Ultimately, what I respected most about the L.P, was that Lil Wayne has absolutely NO filler lyrics on the album. I get the impression that however, deep, gully, hyper or painful Lil Wayne will go to that place. Wayne never appeared capable of holding back lyrically on his L.P. Not many people have that level of quality control in modern hip-hop, something that is needed and deeply respected.
I've been seeking out and reading interviews and features with and about Wayne over the last couple of months and I like the way that he carries himself. He's obviously a respectful young-man who's very aware of his status and potential, he's rarely disrespectful about people, even those who perhaps deserve disrespecting. He's a musical man who obviously respects the process of making music, as opposed to putting lyrics on beats. He's hinted that his next L.P 'Tha Carter 2' will feature production from Kanye West, Havoc and Eminem. Now, I'm not a huge fan of Eminem's beats! I find all to be terribly similar, but when I heard that the 2 could be combining, it was the first time I'd actually thought 'Wow, he'd sound good on an Eminem beat!' and honestly, the combination seems as natural as anything Eminem's done in his career. Havoc and Wayne is going to be a monster collaboration, the darker side of Wayne's lyrical will almost definitely awaken the Havoc of old. When people were saying that 'Havoc's better then Rza!' and 'Havoc's the new Premo!'. I think that an established artist at 22 Wayne will offer a lot to Havoc as an artist and will go someway to restoring the slightly tarnished image that Havoc has encountered over the last few years. Kanye West is a hit machine, and I believe that despite the hype and discontent among many hip-hop fans due to his arrogance and perceived ignorance, he can find the soul in just about anybody. Kanye is a super-producer in the truest sense! Of the established, respected and even worshipped artists that he's worked with, Kanye has managed to find that extra level to take that artist over the edge. I think that in 'Tha Carter 2' we're looking at the best album in the South ever and it's possible that we're looking at 'The best rapper alive since the best rapper retired!'
Tego.
p.s. Sorry I've not posted as much, I've been stupidly busy. I'm back now, and I'll try and keep it daily if not every second day for you.
