Weekend
I'd just completed my last "Full" working week of 2005 (woooooooooooo!) and I had my weekend laid-the-fcuk-out. I was gonna do the studio dizzle on saturday day time and sunday day time. But I'd have little interludes on each day. The first was on Saturday just before 9PM...
... Brixton boy Danny Williams went up against the much hyped/ much hated, British Olympic gold medal winner Audley Harrison in "The biggest heavyweight British boxing match in a dozen years". It was for the commonwealth title and would be Audley's first "Real" fight since turning pro 19 fights ago. Danny was by far the more experienced fighter (although two years younger), he fought and beat Mike Tyson a couple of years back, he fought and lost to Vitali Klitchko a year or so back in his only WBC title shot. The first 6 rounds were by far the most boring and pointless rounds of boxing I've ever seen. Audley tried his hardest to hug his way out of having to fight. Danny, although the far more up for it fighter, wasn't willing to fall prey to some thinly devised Audley master plan. So it was all very cautious and lame. By the 6th though, Danny was bored and getting tired. Audley was cut above the eye (don't get too excited. It was a clash of heads) and he started to land some decent shots. One wild swing even managed to knock Audley down. The last 6 rounds were "Better" without being "Good". Danny clearly won, how a judge managed to split the decision into one Audley win to two Danny wins is beyond me. I feel like they stole a lot of my life with the fight. Never-the-less, Danny Williams brought the title back to Brixton and seems destined for a shot at Hasim Rahman? Damn the heavyweights are in trouble if he's the Champion. The main support card was the prodigy Amir Kahn though. U.S.A aint ready for Amir, I'm telling you. Remember how Prince Naseem came over and owned? (coincidentally, a very fat Prince Naz was in attendance on saturday talking about a comeback) Amir's next.
So Saturday was taken care of. What was my interlude on Sunday?...
... The good people at Channel 5 put one of my favorite films of all time, 'Home Alone' on at 6PM. The whole team were rushing to the studio to catch it. When I tell you, nothing has made me laugh like that film, last night in a long fcuking time. When Joe Pesci slips on the ice on the stairs, then goes back up, grabs the door knob that's been heated and he falls back again. My ribs were hurting man. Hurting. I bought the T.V listings for the Christmas season this weekend and I had to check to see if they were showing 'Home Alone 2'. They aren't, so I'm gonna have to go and kop that this week on the DVD. That's essential viewing. They are showing the 'not as bad as you'd expect' 3rd Home Alone though. After the film though we had serious mic problems that prevented us recording and causing me to become extremely stressed. But that's not the memory. Home Alone's the memory!
The weekend was soured by the news that the great Richard Pryor (we can only call him "The Richard Pryor" it's like a knighthood) had passed after fighting the terrible M.S for 20 years. One of, if not "THE" funniest man ever.
